MEET LUCY; THE ASIAN ELEPHANT HELD CAPTIVE AT

THE EDMONTON ZOO

This is Lucy, the solitary Asian elephant at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

In January 2007, African elephant biologist Winnie Kiiru identified the Edmonton Valley Zoo as the worst zoo in Canada for elephants. It is our belief that this prompted the zoo to release Lucy's long time friend Samantha to a sanctuary, however it took almost one year for the decision to be made...thanks to decades of expert field research it is known that elephants live in herds with a matriarch as the leader...Elephants, much like humans have the same desires and emotional needs...it is necessary for elephants to travel at least 25 to 30 miles each day in order to forage for food, and to keep their bodies healthy so that they can protect their young and care for the newborns...An elephant is active during the day for up to 16 to 20 hours, depending on their location and the eminent dangers at that time...Consider the fact that Edmonton's weather is, to say the least, severe, and Lucy must stay in a small barn for most of the year. She suffers from boredom, and being confined in such a small space can only lead to foot, and arthritic problems...

LUCY MUST BE RELEASED TO A SANCTUARY IN SAN ANDREAS CALIFORNIA THAT IS OPERATED BY PERFORMING ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY...PAWS...WHERE LUCY WILL GET EXPERT MEDICAL ATTENTION AND HAVE THE FREEDOM OF A 12 HECTARE ENCLOSURE WITH FOUR OTHER FEMALE ELEPHANTS.

WE THANK BOB BARKER FOR HIS VALIANT ATTEMPT TO HAVE LUCY FREED.

PLEASE JOIN US AND SIGN THE PETITION TO HAVE LUCY RELEASED.
