We have been extremely busy these past two weeks. Last week we received a phone call at 5 pm local time stating that a poor horse had fallen onto the street downtown and that the owners were beating him. The concerned people who called us said that the poor animal was presumably dead.
We called the police and rushed to the spot, there we came across a poor mare who had been savagely beaten and very maltreated.
Hemos estado muy ocupados en estas dos últimas semanas. Hace unos días recibimos una llamada a las 5 de la tarde diciéndonos que un pobre caballo había caído sobre la calle y que los dueños lo estaban golpeando para obligarlo a incorporarse. La gente preocupada que nos llamó pensó que ya estaba muerto. Telefoneamos a la policía y nos apresuramos al lugar, ahí encontramos a la pobre yegüita que yacía sobre el pavimento y muy maltratada.

Fortunately when we arrived the police and the veterinarian of the Police Force were already there and we learned that the poor animal that happened to be a mare was still alive but in very bad shape. This rather small girl was pulling a cart carrying six adult people and some children despite the fact that she was sick and weak the owner has forced her to walk more than 15 kilometers. A lot of shots were administered by the vet that helped her up.
Afortunadamente cuando llegamos la policía y el veterinario policial ya se encontraban en el lugar y nos enteramos que el pobre animal, que resultó ser una yegüita, estaba aún con vida pero en muy malas condiciones. Inmediatamente se le suministraron varias inyecciones y se la pudo poner de pie.
When the owner found out that we were taking the mare with us he became very violent and while we were waiting for the horse trailer he started walking back and forth with a whip in his hands trying to scare us and insulting us. Some town officials showed up and started arguing with us trying to convince us not to take the animal but rather give the vicious owner money to buy things for the mare to which of course we refused and stated that we do not accept animal maltreatment and that we were taking the poor mare out of the streets.
Cuando el dueño supo que nos íbamos a llevar la yegüita se volvió violento y mientras esperábamos el trailer para transportarla, éste iba y venía con un revenque en la mano tratando de intimidarnos e insultándonos. Algunos funcionarios municipales se apersonaron solidarizándose con el maltratador y demostrando una absoluta falta de respeto hacia el sufriente animal y como si fuera poco tratando de convencernos que le dejáramos el animal al maltratador y que le entregáramos dinero, a lo que obviamente nos rehusamos.
This is Rosalyn the day after the ordeal. We went to check on her like we do with all the horses we have in the Seventh Precinct until taken to our Sanctuary.
Esta es Rosalyn el día después. Fuimos a visitarla como hacemos como todos los rescataditos hasta que vienen a nuestro Santuario.
Untortunately maltreatment of horses here never cease. Last night, we were called again another poor mare had fallen in the street not faraway from where we assisted Rosalyn. And the owner was beating her to force her up, as it is always the case with these vicious people. Again the police helped us because the owner was very aggressive. We have named this new girl Betty, she does not trust people very much, it is not hard to imagine why but we know she will overcome this as time goes by.
Desafortunadamente el maltrato de caballos nunca se detiene. Anoche, nos llamaron nuevamente por otra yegüita que había caído no muy lejos de donde ocurrió la caída de Rosalyn. Y por supuesto el dueño la estaba golpeando salvajemente para ponerla de pie. Nuevamente la policía nos asistió ya que el propietario estaba muy agresivo. Hemos bautizado a esta nenita Betty, ella no confía en la gente y no es difícil imaginarse las razones, pero sabemos que se repondrá de eso a medida que pase el tiempo.

Ahora tenemos tres angelitos en la Comisaría Séptima: Rocky, Rosalyn y Betty y vendrán a nuestro santuario El Nido del Águila muy pronto.
