ABANDONED IN A TUNNEL UNDER A RIVER
THIS IS EVANA; SHE WAS ABANDONED IN A TUNNEL, THE ONLY TUNNEL UNDER WATER IN ALL OF LATIN-AMERICA, THAT CONNECTS TWO PROVINCES: ENTRE RIOS AND SANTA FE
WHEN SHE COULDN'T WALK OR STAND ANYMORE BECAUSE OF MASSIVE ABUSE AND STARVATION, HER OWNERS TOOK OFF HER HARNESS AND JUST LEFT HER IN THE TUNNEL TO DIE...IT'S LUCKY SHE WASN'T HIT BY A CAR OR TRUCK.
WHEN THE POLICE GOT HER BACK AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT THEY COULDN'T BELIEVE THE TERRIBLE SHAPE SHE WAS IN...SHE WEIGHED HALF OF WHAT SHE SHOULD WEIGH...HER COAT WAS FULL OF SMALL WOUNDS THAT ATTRACTED FLIES...SHE WAS COVERED IN FILTH...GREASE...AND DRIED BLOOD.
EVANA AT THE POLICE STATION...HER FIRST GOOD MEAL IN A VERY LONG TIME...ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS EAT, BUT WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTAX HER STOMACH UNTIL SHE HAS HAD SEVERAL WEEKS OF SMALL MEALS.
LOOKING CLOSELY AT EVANA, ONE CAN SEE THE TERRIBLE CONDITION OF HER TIRED OLD BODY...THE ABOVE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AFTER SHE HAD A NICE BATH AND HAD HER COAT WELL BRUSHED WITH A CURRY COMB...THE INFECTION ON HER RIGHT REAR LEG IS BEING TREATED.
IN THIS CLOSE-UP OF HER INFECTION YOU CAN SEE THE PUS AND BLOOD THAT IS OOZING OUT...SHE IS DOING QUITE WELL, BUT SHE WILL NEED A LOT OF CARE BEFORE SHE IS ONCE AGAIN IN GOOD CONDITION...THE MOST IMPORTANT THING NOW, IS THAT SHE IS HAPPY AS ALL SHE DOES IS EAT AND SHE HAS LOTS OF TIME TO JUST REST AND BE A NORMAL HAPPY HORSE.

Evana passed away this evening, she never recovered from her infection in the leg, it was not only located in the flesh but it had already reached the bone when we came across her but the vets were sure they would be able to defeat it but despite all the food, the medicines, the tender love she was getting and all of our efforts she gave up. I am so very sad because this sweet angel didn't deserve this end. She was getting better every day and then all of a sudden, two days ago she lay down and didn't want to get up again. This morning we thought she was going to get better because she started eating again while on the ground but that was the last time. She closed her eyes at 8:00 PM and left us for a better place. She'll be buried here, next to all of our angels who have left us, tomorrow morning...A special thank you to everyone who sent in donations for Evana...They made her last days very special. |
