MEET BLANCHE AND SUSIE
Very early this afternoon, April 5th., we got a call from two different concerned citizens about two mares in different parts of the city being maltreated and in very bad condition and the worse thing is they are BLIND. Imagine being maltreated, pulling carts, malnourished and blind....A DESPICABLE THING !!!!!.
It's presumed that Blanche has been recently stolen because she's not in an extremely bad condition, but the other one, Susie, is in terrible condition...she is so thin and has so many whelps on her body, it is amazing she is still alive.
We've discovered that Blanche is a bit aggressive, probably from the many beatings she has had to suffer, but we are sure she will settle in and make friends with everyone and all the other horses...The vet thinks Blanche is about 6 years old.
Susie is very submissive, and very sweet...She is about 11 years and, was in a bit of shock at first from all the loving attention she was getting, but within a few hours she has settled in and has a belly full of good food.

BLANCHE A BIT SKITTISH AND NERVOUS HAS HER FIRST FEED OF FRESH GREEN GRASS.

LOOK CLOSELY AT HER EYES...SHE IS ALMOST TOTALLY BLIND

Sargeant Rubén Colliard so helpful as always. Look at Susie's eyes:
WHITE ABSOLUTELY BLIND - BOTH EYES
Dr. Brunetti, checking their general condition to write a report to the judge. He was categorically certain that both of the horses are in a terrible state of abuse...AND THAT WILL BE THE REPORT HE HANDS IN TO THE JUDGE WHO WILL GIVE US FULL CUSTODY OF BOTH MARES.

LOOKING CLOSELY ONE CAN SEE THE SCARS ON SUSIE'S FACE...SHE IS SO THIN, AS ONE CAN SEE BY HER RIBS STICKING OUT AND HER DEAR YOUNG BODY IS COVERED WITH WHELPS FROM WHIPS AND STICKS., SUSIE WILL HAVE TO BE GUIDED AROUND THE LARGE HORSE COMPOUND AT FIRST UNTIL SHE GET USED TO HER NEW SURROUNDINGS...IN THE ABOVE PHOTOS SHE IS HAVING A FEEDING OF NEW GRASS, ONE OF THE PLUSES FROM THE RECENT FLOOD.

This is a picture of he city dump where the shanty towns surround it, and this is where they bring the horses to eat in the garbage, many times horses are so hungry that they even eat the plastic bags and they die because horses unlike most animals cannot vomit and they die in a terrible agony.

BLANCHE AND SUSIE ARE VERY LUCKY THAT WE FOUND THEM IN TIME, BEFORE THEY WERE IN SUCH A STATE THAT THEY COULD NOT BE REHABILITATED.
APRIL 12/09-UPDATE

BLANCHE ON THE LEFT AND SUSIE ON THE RIGHT ARE DOING QUITE WELL...SUSIE IS BEING WALKED AROUND HER SPECIAL AREA SO SHE CAN GET USED TO THE TERRAIN...BLANCH, WE'VE DISCOVERED HAS SOME SIGHT.
