I cannot believe, at the dawn of a new millennium when it is expected we have overcome our most evil attitudes.... nothing has changed, really. We are still so backward as to condone, by our apathy, animal cruelty. I do not get it. With all the huge international humane organizations, we still have brutal murders, animal sacrifices in the name of "freedom of religion", barbaric vivisection in the name of medicine and cosmetics; mass killings in the name of animal overpopulation, people giving up their pet- children in record-breaking numbers. I have friends, partners, pals, "sons and daughters" who are always by my side. They are all totally committed to me. Their love is unconditional and their friendship is priceless. How can people, all of a sudden decide to "get rid of them"? How is that possible? Ghandi is quoted often by animal rights advocates, as saying that "you can judge a society by the way it treats its animals". We cannot save this society. on its present course of self-destruction, until we begin saving the animals. To put it another way, if we develop the compassion to care about innocent animals ... dogs, cats, horses, farm animals, wild animals, a little mouse, a rabbit ... and we help them to survive on this harsh planet, then maybe someday we will learn to develop that same compassion for our fellow humans. Until that day comes, people like you and me have to get together and become an army to fight for these animals, to help them have a fruitful life on their own, free from suffering, especially that imposed by man. By our words and especially by our actions, we must teach the rest of the world what we know about the magnificent beings with whom we share this planet. Human beings are the most destructive of all the species, which inhabit this planet, and with our never-ending selfishness decide who lives or dies according to our needs. What would happen if someday animals were able to express themselves in a language, we could understand and let us know we were wrong? If we can solve this problem, we will inspire others to save animals too.
